Jennifer Reid

Jennifer Reid (°1994, Glasgow, United Kingdom) is an artist who mainly works with painting. Her works establish a link between the landscape’s from her home in Argyll and cityscape’s in Glasgow. This shows not only the two most notable places she lives but also demonstrates the different sides to her personality. Argyll represents her need to create a comfortable, silent and relaxing home while Glasgow represents her creativity and enthusiasm for meeting people and learning new things.
Through the use of collage, photography and drawing she develops her ideas to make thought provoking pieces of art, allowing the viewer to interpret the work in their own way. By collecting, altering and merging photographs and sketches from each place she creates large scale paintings and installations.
The large scale works often have been cut up and put back together in order to create depth and literally show the two places stitched together. She often leave raw canvas. This allows a certain space to breathe when painting and working on a previously distorted space minimizes painterly anxiety.
Inspired by her home in Argyll and her new home in Glasgow she looks at the juxtaposition between the two places. This creates bold blocks of colours to represent the buildings and energy in the city and she uses rough textures to show the rock forms that you find in the country side.
The work is meant to create a feeling of comfort and home through her use of colour and texture. www.jenniferjohan.com
